Producing Videos to Upload into Lessons - BEST PRACTICES
Article Overview
This article overviews Skyllful's best practices for producing videos to upload into lessons.
Video Production for Use in the Skyllful Learning Environment
Skyllful also specializes in microlearning experiences that exploit the Gradual Release Learning Model. Microlearning experiences adhere to the learning brain's limitations to maximize comprehension and retention. The Gradual Release Model scaffolds a learner's transition from supported learning experiences to independent performance abilities. Video production for the learner's consumption should adhere to the following best practices.
VIDEO LENGTH & SIZE
- Maximum video length that can be uploaded to the Skyllful platform: 1GB
- Limitations aside, video length impacts the learning experience as well as the storage space on the learner's device.
- Mind the length of the video - avoid inclusion of extraneous details that don't succinctly convey the learning objective or necessary context.
- Mind the size of the video - limiting the length of the video will reduce the storage requirements.
- Mind the resolution of the video - utilize the highest resolution necessary for a quality learning experience. Do not load unnecessarily bloated lessons onto Skyllful Studio.
VIDEO VOICEOVER
- Utilizing Skyllful Studio's built-in voiceover makes it easy to alter the audio file as video edits are required. If you narrate the video instead of using the computerized voiceover feature, you risk having to locate your original narrator to re-record the edited portions, or the entire video script when edits are needed.
- Consider varying the voices you use for your videos to increase learner interest.
- If a large portion of your learning audience is taking the course in a non-native language, consider NOT varying the voiceover character. Instead, choose a character that is easiest for your audience to understand.
- You can download the script voiceover from Studio in one of two ways:
- If you prefer to download one mp3, you can use the 3-dot overflow menu to download one mp3 file.
- If you prefer to download individual mp3 files so you can easily drag screens to the proper point in the video timeline, download individual mp3 files for each step.
- To edit portions of a video you've already created, simply download the audio for the edited steps instead of redownloading the entire audio file.
