Article Overview
iOS and Android have native recording features you can utilize to capture workflow recordings on an end user's device. This article will provide general guidelines for each respective OS. Please note, you may see slight differences as updates are made to your respective device and OS.

1) Native iOS Screen Recording Guide
🔊 If not already done: Enable Screen Recording:
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll down and tap Control Center.
- Find Screen Recording under "More Controls" and tap the green "+" to add it to your Control Center.
▶️ Start Screen Recording:
- Swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen to open the Control Center (on iPhones with Face ID) or swipe up from the bottom of the screen (on iPhones with a Home button).
- Long Press the Screen Recording button (a circle within a circle).
- Tap the microphone icon to record your voiceover.
- Tap Start Recording and you will see a 3-second countdown begin.
🎬 Navigate Through the Mobile Application | Workflow:
- Exit the Control Center and navigate to the mobile application you wish to record.
- Work your way through the linear workflow while narrating your actions and providing context the designer can use to craft quality instruction.
🛑 Stop Screen Recording:
- Once you’ve finished navigating through the application, tap the red recording indicator in the upper left corner.
- Tap Stop.
- The video will automatically be saved to your Photos app.
💾 Review and Share the Recording:
- You will receive a toast that is clickable for easy navigation to your recording.
- If you don't tap the toast in time, open the Photos app and locate the screen recording in your library.
- Review the recording and, if necessary, edit it by tapping Edit.
- Share the recording using the Share button - and according to your organization's digital transfer procedures.
2) Native Android Screen Recording Guide
🔊 If not already done: Enable Screen Recording:
- On most Android devices, screen recording is built into the system. However, the method to access it may vary slightly depending on the device manufacturer.
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Quick Settings panel.
- Look for the Screen Recorder option. If you don’t see it, you may need to swipe left on the Quick Settings panel to find it, or tap the pencil icon to add it to the panel.
▶️ Start Screen Recording:
- Tap the Screen Recorder icon. A pop-up will appear asking if you want to record audio, show touches on the screen, etc.
- Choose your desired settings and tap Start.
- If your entire workflow is contained within a single application, you can choose to record 'single app'.
- If your workflow spans across multiple applications, choose to record your 'entire screen'.
- A countdown will begin, and then the recording will start.

- Exit the Quick Settings panel and begin navigating through the mobile application you wish to record.
- Work your way through the linear workflow while narrating your actions and providing context the designer can use to craft quality instruction.
🛑 Stop Screen Recording:
- When you’re done, swipe down from the top of the screen to re-open the Quick Settings panel.
- Tap the Stop button in the Screen Recorder notification.
- The video will be saved to your device’s Gallery or Photos app, typically in a folder labeled "Screen Recordings."
- You may receive a notification with a quick nav link to the saved recording.
💾 Review and Share the Recording:
- Open the Gallery or Photos app to find your screen recording.
- Review the recording and edit if necessary.
- Use the Share option to distribute the recording - and according to your organization's digital transfer procedures.
